The Poberaj Winery is nestled in a remote area north of White Salmon, WA. Owned by Slovenian-born winemaker, Jure Poberaj, it’s a little piece of Eastern Europe here in the PNW - because Jure is a bit of a Renaissance Man and draws influence from his roots! He’s worked multiple harvests with his uncle, the legendary Josko Gravner, a pioneer in natural winemaking, and on the property you’ll find a subterranean cellar and a stable of Georgian Qvevri buried into the earth, as is the custom for the skin-contact wines from the Caucuses, Balkan Peninsula and parts of central Europe.
Jure has redeemed my hopes for Washington wine! Not all is lost folks. Poberaj is a testament to how singular wines can be here when someone is attuned to the unique climate, soil and has a real vision - not a formula - of how to make wines of character.
The Renaissance Man will be here today with his line-up to taste!
